Pop star Justin Timberlake accepted a plea deal with Suffolk County, New York prosecutors on Friday, to resolve a drink-driving case after he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while impaired as part of deal.

The singer, who was originally accused of driving under the influence, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of non-criminal offense, which carries a fine of $500, a $260 surcharge, 25 hours of community service, and a public safety announcement.

The judge’s sentencing was agreed upon by the defense and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

“I made a mistake and I take full responsibility,” Timberlake said in court, according to a report by Associated Press. “I should have made better choices.”

The incident occurred in June when Timberlake was stopped by police in the Hamptons after failing to stay on the right side of the road and running through a stop sign. Officers noted signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol. Timberlake refused a breathalyzer test and performed poorly on sobriety tests.

Festive offer

Timberlake’s lawyer had previously denied the charges, claiming he was not under the influence. However, the singer admitted to having a single Martini before driving home.

This is not the first time Timberlake has addressed issues related to alcohol consumption. In the past, he has been open about his struggles with excessive drinking.
