The exodus of Donald Trump aides grew on Friday as four more officials in the US government stepped down following the storming of the US Capitol by the supporters of the ongoing President in a bid to overthrow the election and keep Democrat Joe Biden from replacing Trump in the White House.
According to a Reuters report, four senior advisers in the White House National Security Council have resigned taking the number of officials who have stepped down after the US Capitol siege to 15.
The officials who stepped down on Thursday were Erin Walsh, senior director for African affairs; Mark Vandroff, senior director for defense policy; Anthony Rugierro, senior director for weapons of mass destruction; and Rob Greenway, senior director for Middle Eastern and North African affairs.
The mob of hundreds of Donald Trump backers broke into the US Capitol and roamed the halls looking for lawmakers, who were forced to halt their deliberations and evacuate to safety.
So far, 15 officials in the Donald Trump government have resigned. Two of the US Cabinet members -- Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Transport Secretary Elaine Chao -- have resigned over the storming of the Capitol by President Donald Trump's supporters.
On Thursday, a number of senior White House staffers resigned over the US Capitol violence. They include US Deputy National Security Advisor Matt Pottinger, first lady Melania Trump's chief of staff Stephanie Grisham, White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews, and White House social secretary Rickie Niceta.
Others who submitted their resignations on Thursday were Tyler Goodspeed, the acting chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors; and John Costello, deputy assistant secretary for intelligence and security at the Commerce Department.
